Food Donations
I wanted to try to assemble the most kits possible to be a big help. I knew the only way I could do this was if I gathered donations from others in my community. I received an e-mail with a list of items that needed to go into the kits. I took that list, along with a few other Items, and formulated a flyer to pass around my neighborhood to gather donations. In order to be effective, I went to Harmons and asked the manager if he would donate paper bags to my cause. I then received over 75 bags and thanked him for his donation.
I stapled my flyer to these bags and went to work. I went door to door in my neighborhood telling people what I was doing and how it would help. Many people seemed excited to donate and ready to help out. I even had one person give me a full bag of food right then! I told everyone I would be coming around 2 days later to pick up the donations.
2 days later, I was shocked by how many donations I received! I just kept getting bag after bag off of peoples' doorsteps.
Little did I know, I would have enough food to assemble 25 kits and have extra to donate to the food bank.
